That's according to research out Tuesday from Mozilla and CheckFirst, which concludes that leading tech platforms are lagging in their ad transparency tools. None of the results were great, and some were "a major disappointment," according to the researchers. "This is now no longer something that's voluntary," Claire Pershan, EU advocacy lead at Mozilla, told CNBC. It's troubling news as the major platforms prepare for a huge year of elections that affect upward of 4 billion people in more than 40 countries. Lesplingart told CNBC that users had to know the advertiser name, targeted country and date of the advertisement in order to export to an ad file.

On Tuesday, the networking platform released its annual Top Companies list identifying the 50 best places in the U.S. for professionals to grow their careers. LinkedIn published two lists as part of its report: one for midsize companies with at least 250 employees and another for large companies with 5,000 employees or more. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California regulators on Friday authorized Waymo to expand services of its fleet of robotaxis into Los Angeles and to cities on the peninsula south of San Francisco. The California Public Utilities Commission approved Waymo's application for the expansion of its self-driving taxi operations beyond San Francisco starting Friday. The company owned by Google parent Alphabet Inc. has also been operating the service in Phoenix since 2020. The expansion for Waymo comes after California authorities revoked the license of a rival robotaxi service owned by General Motors after determining its driverless cars that had been transporting passengers throughout San Francisco were a dangerous menace. Officials in San Mateo County and Los Angeles had opposed the expansion and want more local say over how robotaxis can operate.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google’s corporate parent returned to double-digit revenue growth during last year’s final quarter, signaling the internet powerhouse has regained its footing even as it grapples with regulatory and competitive threats to its digital empire. The results announced Tuesday by Alphabet Inc. marked the third consecutive quarter of escalating revenue growth for the Mountain View, California, company, with most of the sales coming through Google’s dominance of search and online advertising. Narayana Murthy courted controversy by urging young Indians to work 70 hours a week for the development of the country. Larger rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS.NS) has already asked workers to return to the office for five days a week. Tech giants Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google have also told workers to work from office for at least a few days every week.

The government, in cross examination, will likely also ask why the company pays billions of dollars annually to ensure that Google search is the default in smartphones. The clout in search makes Google a heavy hitter in the lucrative advertising market, its biggest revenue source. It has also argued that if people are dissatisfied with default search engines that they can, and do, switch to another search provider.

The amount of payments Google made for the default status has more than tripled since 2014, according to senior executive Prabhakar Raghavan who is responsible for both search and advertising, the report added. Google's revenue from search advertising came in at $146.4 billion in 2021, while the payments for the default setting were its biggest cost, Raghavan was mentioned as saying in the Bloomberg report. The company has argued the revenue share agreements are legal and that it has invested to keep its search and advertising businesses competitive. Google had objected to revealing the numbers, saying they would harm the company's ability to negotiate contracts in the future.
